SUMMARY:The rise of the far right in Latin America - (Discussion Group)
DTSTAMP:20260413T130304Z
DTSTART:20260415T170000Z
DESCRIPTION:Asamblea Abierta de Praga invites:\n\nOpen political discussion
group in Prague – come and participate!\n\nTheme: The rise of the far rig
ht in Latin America\; Why does it keep gaining\nconsensus and captivating
public opinion? Why do popular sectors\, which have\nhistorically identifi
ed with the left\, now see these leaders as an option?\n\nIn Czechia\, the
far right (SPD and Motoristé) already influences the government\n– "Trump
ism" has already arrived in the heart of Europe. But perhaps there is a\nk
ey difference: While in Czechia politics is framed as "democracy vs\nautho
ritarianism\," in Latin America the phenomenon is much cruder: people\nper
ceive that voting does very little – it doesn't solve hunger\, insecurity\
, or\nprecarity. Politics is experienced as a circus\, and the far right c
apitalizes on\nthat rage by promising to "blow up the system" – as a respo
nse to the\ndisillusionment with liberal democracy.\n\nSome of the hypothe
ses from the left to explain this phenomenon are as follows:\n\n1. Crisis
of representation and failure of "progressivism" – One of the most\nsolid
theses points out that the advance of the far right is\, paradoxically\, t
he\nchild of the crisis of neoliberalism and the inability of the governme
nts that\nfollowed it.\n\n2. Asymmetric polarization": rebellion dresses u
p as the right – It's a common\nmistake to believe that rebellion and soci
al rage can only translate into\nleft-wing votes. Faced with popular exhau
	stion\, figures like Milei\, Kast\, or\nBolsonaro channel discontent not a
	gainst capitalism\, but against "political\nelites\," "progressivism\," or
the poor (whom they blame for the crisis)\,\nconstructing an authoritaria
n and liberal common sense.\n\n3. The return of the Monroe Doctrine by the
United States – Trumpism has\nlaunched an offensive to retake undisputed
control of the region\, challenge\ngeopolitical powers like China\, and st
op any attempt at autonomous integration.\nThe far-right governments are\,
in this sense\, the executing arms of this new\nrecolonization.\n\n4. Neo
fascism and the culture of "order" – More than populism\, what we see is\n
neofascism. These projects share a common core: authoritarianism\, reactio
nary\nnationalism\, the cult of the leader\, and the targeting of "scapego
	ats"\n(immigrants\, feminists\, dissidents).\n\n5. The Bukele factor: exce
ption or model? – The analysis here is more complex:\nhe is not a classic
neoliberal like Milei\, but his government has mutated toward\n"bourgeois
Bonapartism." His success lies in having broken with the old corrupt\npoli
tical caste and offering tangible results (security) that the Salvadoran\n
left (FMLN) failed to provide\, thus winning the loyalty of broad popular\
	nsectors.\n\nDate: April 15th\nTime: 7 PM\nLocation: AC254 / Argentinská 7
83/18\, Prague.\n\nAbout us:\n\nAsamblea Abierta de Praga is a leftist col
lective established by migrants and\nlocals in Prague. With our work\, we
seek to build broad and plural alliances\nwith other similar groups and pe
	ople in the city.
