“The vast majority of Americans didn’t want to go to war with Iran. Yet mainstream publications like the New York Times continued to push think pieces on why the US simply needed to violate the sovereignty of the Gulf state, culminating in them dropping bunker buster bombs on three nuclear enrichment sites in Iran. Liberal media points at the existential threat that a nuclear-armed Iran poses to the world, while ignoring the inconvenient fact that the USA is the only state to have dropped nukes on a civilian population. Along with that, they pull at the heartstrings of well-meaning liberals by bemoaning the plight of Iranian women. While the advocacy is justified, Iranian women are actually better off than their American counterparts in many measurable outcomes - educational attainment, healthcare access, social security, just to name a few. And even if this weren’t the case, are American bombs really what is going to free them from their regime?
Too many wars have been justified in the name of this ‘liberation’. It is well past time to reject this warmongering rhetoric that only serves to fatten the wallets of the ruling class, and to stand up and make our voices heard - we will not passively stand by and consent to the invasion and destabilisation of yet another sovereign Middle Eastern nation.
Join us at 7 pm on Tuesday, July 1st at AC254 / Argentinská 783 for a discussion on US military intervention in the Middle East, as well as on the role that we play in pushing back against the manufacturing of consent for yet another unjustifiable war.”
