Organizing in times of authoritarianism: Combatting designations & the counterterrorism framework

For decades, the counterterrorism framework has enabled authoritarian narratives, racist propaganda and often extrajudicial or arbitrary imprisonment of anyone deemed a threat to state interests. This arc has spanned from America's so-called "War on Terror," to the negation and demonization of the right to resist imperialism, occupation and war, to the political and legal mechanisms now being weaponized to crush dissent to Western governments' participation in the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

We are a coalition of anti-Zionist and anti-imperialist organizations working across campaigns to defend political prisoners who have been impacted by the violence of this framework. In this moment of escalating authoritarianism, we believe international amplification and collaboration across these campaigns is critical.

This webinar will discuss and connect the CzechElbit11, Ulm5, Filton25, BrizeNorton6, and Michigan8 campaigns to explore some of the following questions:

* How is the counterterrorism and proscription/designation framework used as a weapon against our movements for liberation?

* How can we collaborate to expose and delegitimize counterterrorism laws and uplift resistance to genocide, fascism and war profiteering?

* How can we coordinate joint actions, media efforts and solidarity across campaigns to disable the criminalization of people of conscience and refocus the narrative on the role of our governments in genocide, war and militarism?

* What are our shared legal and popular strategies to prioritize the lens of strategic defense (engaging in defense towards advancing our offensive work)?
